ABOUT ME
Design Philosophy
If I were to summarize my professional purpose in a single sentence, it would be, "always do what's right for the user." This may sound like a platitude, but I'm sincere. It drives every design decision I make, and is foundational to acquiring an understanding of who the user is; what they need, what they expect, and by what means they feel satisfaction. These are just some of the things that are revealed in an ongoing Discovery Process which includes a variety of activities such as gathering quantitative metrics, sales and marketing profiles, user stories, heuristic analysis, competitive research, user interviews, and other qualitative feedback. As these are aligned with the business goals, the problem definitions begin to materialize, and that's where the fun begins.
My Process
When I began my career, my first Creative Director would often say, "Design is a process. Not an event." She was right, of course. Iteration is the most reliable path to quality results. In general, I adhere to the British Design Council's Double-Diamond framework; Discover/Define, Develop/Deliver. This represents divergent thinking followed by convergent action. Not every project follows this exact sequence, and honestly, every project is different, but this framework provides the flexibilty needed for both complex and simple projects.
